Here’s a special treat for dad fans everywhere: Paste can exclusively announce not only that Oni Press has acquired the rights to publish comics based on the popular dating-simulation visual novel Dream Daddy, but that the first of these standalone stories is available right this very instant on comiXology and other digital platforms.
Co-created by Vernon Shaw and Leighton Gray and released by developer Game Grumps, Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator invites players to the fictional locale Maple Bay, where you assume the role of a single Dad new to town, eager to romance other hot Dads. The comic series is structured as five standalone stories, each focused on different Maple Bay Dads, from the fitness fanatic to the…vampire?
“There are so many more stories we wanted to explore in the DDADDS universe,” Shaw said in a statement. “And Oni is giving us this amazing new outlet to tell them. Hope everyone likes Dad jokes!”
“It’s always been a dream of mine to work on a comic book series,” Gray added. “I couldn’t be happier that we got to make all these cool new Dad stories with such cool people!”
While the primary thrust (no pun intended) of Oni Press’s Dream Daddy publishing plan is digital distribution, attendees of this weekend’s PAX West (Penny Arcade Expo) in Seattle, WA, can purchase print copies of the first issue, with a cover by Runaways artist Kris Anka, at the Oni Press booth (#6305). If you’re not attending but still prefer a physical reading experience, the issue will also be available in the Oni Press online shop. All subsequent print issues will also feature covers from Anka, and will be available via the Oni Press store and convention appearances at RCCC, NYCC and PAX Unplugged. Digital versions of each comic are available monthly on Steam, comiXology and other digital retailers:
comiXology
Google Play
iTunes/iBooks
Amazon Kindle
Steam (available at 4:00 p.m. Pacific)
