Brian Tyree Henry Joins Millie Bobby Brown in Godzilla vs. Kong

Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry’s hot streak keeps going, as he’s been set to star in Legendary’s 2020 square-off Godzilla vs. Kong, per Variety.

Plot details are still vague, as are details on Henry’s role in the forthcoming film, but he will reportedly play a significant role opposite Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, who enters Legendary’s shared Monsterverse with the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters next May. Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler and Julian Dennison of Deadpool 2 will also star.

Adam Wingard, best known for indie-horror hits like Trick ‘r Treat and The Guest, is set to direct the film.

This year, Henry earned his second Emmy nomination, this time for playing Paper Boi in FX’s hit series Atlanta, as well as his first Tony nomination for appearing opposite Chris Evans and Michael Cera in a Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero. Henry has also had a busy year on the film side, appearing in theaters now in White Boy Rick, and with roles in the forthcoming, much-anticipated Widows, If Beale Street Could Talk and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse still on the way later in 2018.

Next year also looks to be a busy one for Henry, as in addition to shooting the third season of Atlanta, he’s also set for MGM’s Child’s Play remake and the Joe Wright-directed The Woman in the Window opposite Amy Adams, both of which are set for release in 2019.

Minus his forthcoming voice role in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this new project marks Henry’s first turn in a major franchise, and it’s yet another well-deserved gig for the versatile actor. Hopefully, he brings something special to a film that, as of now, is laying out its only selling point in its title.
