Richard Donner Discusses Superman’s 40th Anniversary in New Interview

Legendary director Richard Donner discussed this weekend’s upcoming 40th anniversary of the first modern superhero movie, 1978’s Superman, on a special new episode of film podcast Missing Frames.

Now retired, Donner spoke on the motivation behind treating Superman’s comic book source material with respect, working with cinematographer Geoffrey Unsworth and production designer John Barry, meeting stars Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder for the first time, and whether he ever got around to checking out the following three installments starring the late Reeves’ Superman.

You can listen to the full interview here and revisit Paste Comedy Editor Garrett Martin’s piece on why the 1978 Superman isn’t really a superhero movie here.
