Pixies have announced a new studio album slated for a September release. To supplement their currently untitled eighth studio recording, the veteran alt-rockers will be documenting the recording process and a bit of the band’s long-standing history with a new podcast titled Past Is Prologue, Pixies in collaboration with Signal Co. No1.
The forthcoming album was recorded at Dreamland Recordings just outside of Woodstock, N.Y., and was produced by Tom Dalgety, who also produced Pixies’ 2016 album Head Carrier.
Hosted and narrated by music journalist Tony Fletcher, Past Is Prologue, Pixies will attempt to capture every angle of the creative and recording process, and its progression within a raw studio setting through its 12 installments. Delving into the band’s impressive 30+-year history, the podcast will also contextualize this next chapter by including individual conversations with the Pixie’s current members and Dalgety.
Co-founder of Signal Co. No1, Michael Simons, said in a statement, “While the emphasis of the podcast will be on the creation of the new album and looking forward, we were very interested, from a story perspective, in the way history has shaped who the Pixies are, and how and what they are creating now, how the past creates the present.”
