Altered Carbon Season Two in Production with Several New Cast Members

Netflix has released a new teaser revealing that season two of its dystopian sci-fi drama series Altered Carbon has begun production. The teaser also shed light on the new cast (or sleeves, if you will) of season two, which stars Anthony Mackie, replacing Joel Kinnaman as protagonist Takeshi Kovacs.

The second season will also see the return of Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer and Chris Conner as Poe. Also joining the cast are Simone Missick as Trepp, Dina Shihabi as Dig 301, Torben Liebrecht as Colonel Carrera and James Saito as Tanaseda Hideki, with even more new cast members to be announced soon.

Altered Carbon is based on the classic sci-fi novel by Richard K. Morgan. It’s produced by Skydance Television, with Laeta Kalogridis, Alison Schapker and James Middleton serving as executive producers for the series alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross for Skydance.

The series was created by Kalogridis, and the first season was ordered by Netflix in January 2016. Steve Blackman served as co-showrunner on the first season with Kalogridis, who wrote the script. Altered Carbon was reportedly quite expensive to make, with the first season’s budget reaching past even Game of Thrones cost-wise. Netflix has also announced an anime series for Altered Carbon that will serve as a companion to the live-action version, exploring different parts of the universe and storyline. The series comes from the anime studio Anima, and will be written by Dai Soto and Tsukasa Kondo.
