Trump’s Twitter a Self-Centered Mess After Christchurch Terror Attack

After the terror attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that left 49 dead and many more injured Thursday evening, an extensive manifesto posted on web forum 8chan by the white-supremacist shooter contained praise for President Trump “as a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose.”

Afterward—and before he released any kind of statement issuing support for those affected in New Zealand—Trump tweeted out a link to the Breitbart News Network homepage, a publication that has long been affiliated with the so-called alt-right. The post was deleted overnight, before his actual tweet on the attack was issued.

Some have speculated that, although he linked to the Breitbart homepage, Trump was attempting to promote an interview he gave to the website in which he touted the toughness of his supporters. “I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump—I have the tough people,” Trump told Breitbart, “but they don’t play it tough—until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad.”

The headlining Breitbart article at the time Trump linked the site, however, was about the terror attacks. The piece’s comments section was then and is now rife with Islamophobic and racist language.

Trump has spent the rest of the day tweeting about presidential bullying and a story he saw on One America News Network by far-right conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec promoting #Jexodus, a right-wing movement to try to ignite a Jewish exodus from the Democratic party.

While President Trump may be focused on exactly the wrong things today, here are some ways you can financially support the victims of yesterday’s white-supremacist terror attack:
