Noname, aka Fatimah Nyeema Warner, unleashed her new single “Song 32” at midnight Friday, the follow-up to the previously released “Song 31.” The Chicago rapper’s latest track is filled with her usual laid-back hip-hop grooves, but she takes no prisoners in her lyrics.

Collaborating once more with producer Phoelix and rapping over his silky-smooth beats, Noname touches on everything from American materialism to the story of Adam and Eve (“the truest sin was the pussy,” she notes). Her prowess as an artist and a cultural critic are undeniable as she raps, “I’m Obama pushing the button, in Libya, Pakistan / Humanly a hypocrite, the sinner and the civilian / The pettiest that gets, I’m America at its best.” Noname marries mellifluous sounds and pointed lyrics like no one else, but it’s to be expected from a rapper whose 2018 album Room 25 graced both Paste’s lists of best hip-hop albums of 2018 and best records from last year overall.
