Chernobyl Has Surpassed Breaking Bad as IMDb’s Top-Ranked TV Show of All Time

Just days after its final episode, HBO’s Chernobyl has become the top-ranked TV show of all time on IMDb, according to Variety.

As of Tuesday, the Amazon-owned IMDb has calculated Chernobyl at 9.7 stars out of 10. Chernobyl’s rating comes from about 140,000 users on IMDb.

Preceding Chernobyl, AMC’s Breaking Bad topped the list with a 9.5 star rating. BBC’s Planet Earth II and HBO’s Band Of Brothers are tied with Breaking Bad at 9.5, as well. Other notable series on the list are BBC’s original Planet Earth with a 9.4, and HBO’s Game of Thrones and The Wire, which both are sitting at a 9.3 out of 10.

The top-rated HBO show dramatizes the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident in present-day Ukraine. With unsettling and ghastly imagery of radiation exposure, the show isn’t one for the faint of heart. However, instead of dwelling on the horrors of radiation, Chernobyl taps into the horror of humans and the haunting decisions we can make. The series stars Stellan Skarsgård and Jared Harris, as the Soviet Deputy Prime Minister and the lead nuclear physicist tasked with dealing with the aftermath of the accident, respectively.
