is joining the already star-studded cast of the forthcoming FX limited series, Mrs. America, the network announced Tuesday.
The nine-episode project centers around the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and stars Cate Blanchett. While slated to launch in 2020, no premiere date has been set yet.
Banks will be sharing the limelight with veteran actors Uzo Aduba, Rose Byrne, Kayli Carter, Ari Graynor, Melanie Lynskey, James Marsden, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, John Slattery, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tracey Ullman.
The show tells the story of the push to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and the unexpected backlash to the movement, helmed by conservative woman Phyllis Schlafly (Blanchett). Banks will play Jill Ruckelshaus, a pro-choice, socially progressive Republican appointed by President Ford to push the women’s rights movement forward, despite the efforts of Schlafly and the Religious Right.
Banks will arrive on the Mrs. America set fresh off recent TV roles including Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Modern Family and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She’ll also be juggling post-production on a revamped Charlie’s Angels, which she wrote, directed, produced and stars in. Currently, you can see Banks in evil superhero horror picture Brightburn.
