Let the people rejoice: Angel Olsen has returned to unveil the details of her fourth studio album All Mirrors and share its imposing title track.
Out Oct. 4 via Jagjaguwar, All Mirrors is the musician’s first studio effort since 2016’s My Woman and 2017 rarities collection Phases. Olsen’s forthcoming release is the end product of the musician’s original goal to release the album as a double LP: a set of acoustic recordings and their full-band renderings. After completing the first half, Olsen made a drastic sonic switch and transformed the recordings into larger, heavier arrangements with longtime producer John Congleton and a 14-piece orchestra.
All Mirrors is described as getting “its claws into you on both micro and macro levels,” a creeping feeling obvious on the album’s first cut. “All Mirrors” is big—a blustering, imposing arrangement of grim strings, sweeping synths and oscillating percussion.
“I chose this one as the title because I liked the theme: the theme of how we are all mirrors to and for each other,” Olsen said in a statement. “Even if that is not all of it, there is always an element of projection in what we’d like to see in people and scenarios and in the way we see ourselves in those scenarios, with those people.”
Olsen’s accompanying video is perhaps just as grand as the track itself; directed by Ashley Connor, the visual feels awfully Good Witch-Bad Witch, finding Light Angel Olsen being swept into the orbit of a formidable, throned Dark Angel Olsen.
All Mirrors will arrive on Oct. 4 via Jagjaguwar, and you can preorder the release here. Olsen teased the album’s announcement last week with a countdown on her website.
