Watch Angie McMahon Perform Cuts from New Album Salt in the Paste Studio

Angie McMahon showed up to the Paste Studio with just one electric guitar in hand, but that’s all she needed.

The Australian singer/songwriter is having a big week. She released her debut LP, Salt, a stirring solo collection of riff-driven, honest ballads, on Friday, the same day she played the legendary Newport Folk Festival. There, she closed out the festival’s “Future is Female” set, a day before some of the best working in her craft—Dolly Parton, Brandi Carlile, Judy Collins and loads more—would gather on stages big and small to sing songs new and old. It was a magical weekend full of surprising moments, among them Parton’s performance with The Highwomen and Janet Weiss’ appearance with none other than Jim James and Kermit the Frog.

But Newport is also known for its spirit of discovery, and McMahon is one music fans have been slowly becoming hip to these last few months. Following tons of great press attention and winning awards at this year’s South By Southwest, McMahon has become one to watch.

Following that jam-packed weekend, McMahon graciously appeared in our studio for a half-hour session that’s guaranteed to captivate you. She plays four songs from Salt, including the electrifying single “Pasta.” Watch the whole thing below.
