Netflix’s Big Mouth Renewed for Three More Seasons in Major Production Deal

It seems the kids of Netflix’s Big Mouth will be going through changes for three more seasons, as the show has just been renewed through Season Six.

Striking a massive deal with the show’s creators, Netflix has granted Big Mouth three additional seasons, after the show was already renewed for a third season. The show’s third season is due out this fall, following the show’s Valentine’s Day special, which debuted back in February.

Created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, and inspired by Goldberg and Kroll’s childhoods, the series tells the story of a group of friends who are all going through puberty with the help of their vulgar “hormone monsters.” Filled with bawdy humor, the show dwells on the hilarity of that stage in life while also reconciling with the seemingly constant sense of embarrassment and isolation also felt in growing up.

Netflix has given us the best creative experience imaginable, and we’ve been able to build an amazing community of talented writers, actors, producers and artists,” the show’s creators said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be continuing with everyone for years to come.”

The critically acclaimed and Emmy-nominated show’s voice cast includes John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, Jessi Klein, Jenny Slate, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen and Kroll himself (as 27 different characters, we might add). Even more big names joined the series for Season Three, including Ali Wong, Martin Short and Thandie Newton.

As part of the major deal, the creators have formed production company Brutus Pink, and they’ve signed a multi-year deal to produce animated content for Netflix. This deal is only one part of Netflix’s efforts to produce more animated content, and Netflix has even opened their own animation studio. Despite this pro-animation mindset, Netflix recently canceled the acclaimed animated series Tuca & Bertie after only one season.

Big Mouth brilliantly captures the most awkward phase in a person’s life, puberty, in a hilarious yet heartwarming way,” Mike Moon, head of adult animation for Netflix, said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue our relationship with Brutus Pink and bring more stories, more humor, and more hormones to Netflix members around the world.”
