Hear Nine Inch Nails Perform With David Bowie On This Day in 1995

Nine Inch Nails, whose 1989 debut album Pretty Hate Machine turned 30 on Sunday, are celebrating another cool anniversary this week. Today marks 24 years since the band played a co-headline show with none other than David Bowie.

Bowie’s 1995 experimental album Outside was promoted with a fittingly strange co-headline tour with Nine Inch Nails. On this day in 1995, the tour made its way to Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. Though many fans of both artists were confused by this double billing, much of Bowie’s material on the Berlin Trilogy contained elements of industrial music, and his Brian Eno-produced new album certainly pushed musical boundaries. Industrial rock giants Nine Inch Nails were riding a high as well, having just released arguably their greatest album The Downward Spiral a year earlier. Among the highlights of this show, Bowie performed his own interpretation of NIN’s “Hurt” alongside the band, plus an electronic arrangement of the title track to his 1970 album The Man Who Sold The World.
