Canadian singer-songwriter with pop leanings Allie X released her album Cape God today, Feb. 21, featuring a collaboration with the indie-rock icon Mitski on the track “Susie Save Your Love.”
The track leans on drum and bass, with plenty of synth and a distinct pop leaning, despite the depressing lyrics about a woman named Susie and her inability to find reciprocated love. Allie X and Mitski’s vocals are almost too perfect of a match, but it makes for a solid track for dancing in your bedroom—whether you’re untroubled or forlorn.
While Mitski’s last album was 2018’s Be The Cowboy, a lovingly composed electro-pop album that featured the cultural resets “Nobody” and “Geyser,” she has still been working on music since. She penned the fast-paced, distorted single “Cop Car” for the horror film The Turning, which came out back in January.
In a July 2018 interview with Pitchfork, Mitski hinted at pursuing more collaborations in the future, especially because touring behind her own projects has been such a drain on her mental health: “I’m just trying to plant as many seeds of investment as possible,” she told the outlet. “I’m also looking ahead 10 or 15 years from now, when I maybe don’t want to tour as much.”
