After 17 Years, Onimusha: Warlords Is Being Remastered

Capcom announced Tuesday that it will release a remaster of Onimusha: Warlords, the first entry in the highly successful Onimusha series. The remaster is slated for release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch on Jan. 15, 2019.

The original Onimusha: Warlords was released over 17 years ago, marking the start of a series that was intended to be a spinoff of Resident Evil that took place in feudal Japan and featured ninja-inspired elements. The last game was Onimusha Soul, which released in 2012 and was Capcom’s first browser game. Overall, the Onimusha series has sold approximately eight million copies, establishing itself as one of Capcom’s most successful franchises.

This remaster will include a variety of new features, including: high-definition upgrades to characters, environments and cinematics; a screen scroll feature for widescreen display; the ability to move using the analog stick for better movement accuracy and accessibility; an immediately available Easy Mode; and a new soundtrack.

Onimusha: Warlords will sell for the price of $19.99. Fans in North America can already preorder the physical version but will have to wait for the digital version to becoe available. Fans in Europe can only purchase the digital version of the game.
