Somehow I’ve turned into a home video perfectionist. I didn’t realize it was happening until it was done, and now here I am, a guy with way too many 4K UHD Blu-rays in his office and a wife who doesn’t fully support that. I’ve found that, when in the throes of an unexpected new fixation, it’s best to devote myself to it as fully as possible, in hopes of burning it out of my system as quickly as I can. As such here’s a thing I’ll be doing every month until I stop caring: rounding up every new and upcoming 4K Blu-ray release.
These are all physical releases that will be available in actual stores (along with online retailers, of course), and not simply digital 4K releases. With the vagaries of the streaming market being what they are, I’ve found it crucial to own the genuine product and not just depend on the internet for my fix. I’ve always believed that libraries are an invaluable resource, and I’m pretty sure I now have the best library of 4K Blu-rays this side of the nearest Best Buy. I’m not bragging—I might actually be a little sad about that. Hey, you’ve got to fill your life with something, I guess.
November’s got some hits coming out, no doubt juiced by the upcoming holidays. It’s a good mix of big movies from this year and timeless classics from the dude cinema canon. That tends to be what gets released on 4K—either recent releases or old stuff that guys like. That means old action, sci-fi and comic book movies, typically. Philadelphia stands out a bit as an outlier, but it’s not like it isn’t a heavily acclaimed film starring perhaps the two most beloved actors of their generation, so it’s not shocking to see it get the 4K treatment.
Enough jibber jabber. Here’s what you can expect to grace your 4K players throughout the month of November.
