Zac Efron Does Ted Bundy a Lot of Favors in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile Trailer

An uncomfortably palatable trailer has been released for the Ted Bundy film titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, starring Zac Efron as the infamous serial killer.

The film is directed by Joe Berlinger, who also helmed Netflix’s chilling new four-part docuseries Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.

Along with a look at Bundy’s crimes, the trailer for Extremely Wicked shows that the film will delve into the outrageous media attention that the charismatic killer garnered during his 1979 trial, in which he served as his own attorney.

The fast-paced trailer features Efron flaunting his charm and shedding his shirt to the accompaniment of guitar riffs straight out of a summer action-comedy blockbuster. The tone suggests a level of coolness that doesn’t quite belong to a serial killer, let alone one as fundamentally evil as Bundy (who confessed to the violent murders of at least 30 women).

Deadline reports that the film is mostly told from the lens of Bundy’s girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lilly Collins), who stood by Bundy’s innocence despite her doubts.

Without an official date for its national release, the film will premiere this weekend at the Sundance Film Festival. The film also co-stars John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Kaya Scodelario, Haley Joel Osment, Angela Sarafyan and Metallica’s James Hetfield, making his feature film debut.

Watch the full trailer below and try not to forget that Bundy was a very real serial killer.
