The Seven Greatest Female Action Heroes

The recent release of Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, starring MMA fighter Gina Carano, was as notable for its A-List cast and crew as it was for the casting of an actress not named Jolie in the lead role. As such, it got us to thinking: How many true female Action Heroes are there?

“I swear, if I have to listen to Bill talk about Superman and Batman one more time, I’ll kill him.”

3. Uma Thurman
What happens when you get cast as the lead in Quentin Tarantino’s homage-a-rama to pretty much every Action Hero sub-genre category that has ever existed? Well, at the very least, you make it on any list of cinematic lethal weapons. Thurman’s turn as Beatrix Kiddo (“The Bride”) in the two films that make up Kill Bill is notable because, geez, have you seen how much damage she dishes out after being shot in the head and left in a coma for four years? The chances of future Action Hero roles are slim—and likely 100% Tarantino-dependent—but Kill Bill was like a Hanzo-made, razor-edged Golden Ticket steeped in the blood of your foes that slices off the head of Willy Wonka. You’re in. (Please don’t kill me.)
