Tank and The Bangas Release Vibrant New Track, “Smoke.Netflix.Chill.”

New Orleans five-piece Tank and The Bangas have released the perfect new song for 4/20, “Smoke.Netflix.Chill.”

Led by frontwoman Tarriona “Tank” Ball’s smooth lead vocals, “Smoke.Netflix.Chill.” showcases the group’s unique take on hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul and R&B with poetic lyrics for modern-day listeners. Ball talked to NPR Music about the lyrical inspiration behind their joyous, genre-defying new song:

I wanted to tell this story from a girl’s perspective—a girl that actually wants to chill, instead of the guy pushing for it. I wanted to see where that could go. I’ve never written so many verses to one song! But it was so worth it to see the story in my head actually come to life.

The group released their debut album in 2013 to critical acclaim and their new single is their first major-label release for U.S. label Verve Forecast.

Tank and The Bangas are also set to release an exclusive Record Store Day live vinyl LP, Live Vibes, pressed on yellow vinyl and out on April 21. The album was recorded live at Gasa Gasa in New Orleans in 2017 and it comes packaged in a die-cut jacket with a very special custom color print found in the jacket’s interior.

Fresh off their performances at SXSW and the first weekend of Coachella, the band will continue touring with an extensive run of North American dates. The shows include stops at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre, New Orleans’ Tipitinas, San Francisco’s The Fillmore, Nashville’s The Basement East and Denver’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The band will also perform at several festivals like Newport Folk, Jazz Fest, Hangout, Bottlerock and more.
