All Radiohead All The Time!
Radiohead, Radiohead, Radiohead. Everybody’s talking about RADIOHEAD and their new pay-as-you-wish record, In Rainbows. Even my grandma (seriously). I’ve probably heard it somewhere between eight and twelve times, and I swear it gets more interesting and beautiful with every listen. Enjoy this list of my favorite Radiohead songs. I even went out on a limb and picked a few from the new record. What are your favorites? Sorry for the sporadic updating, but Knate is back in business. We mean it this time! Devotedly, Kate 1. Black Star 2. Fake Plastic Trees 3. Everything In Its Right Place 4. Thinking... read more
All Dentist Office, All The Time
Sitting in the waiting room at the dentist office is the worst. Every time the door opens to call the next victim you can hear the scraping of metal on enamel, the buzzing drill, and the screams of children. Today’s KNATE post is a double playlist to help you through your next visit to hell. Here is a pre-dental appointment playlist to listen as you imagine the dentist diagnosing you with meth mouth while the hygenists point and laugh. But mostly, this is to help get Orin Scrivello out of your head. 1.Modest Mouse - Teeth Like God’s ShoeShine 2.... read more
All Facial Hair, All The Time
I have been blessed/cursed with ability to grow a beard in just a few hours. It’s a power I have guarded carefully with semi-regular grooming. I have never unleashed the full fury of my facial hair. Maybe one day, wife permitting, the world will be ready for Bearded Nate. Until then, let us celebrate artists that embrace the joy of facial hair with wild abandon. This installment of KNATE is a tribute to beards, moustaches, fu man chus and the artists that wear them or sing about them. 1. ZZ Top - “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide” (This is the anthem... read more
All Movie Songs, All the Time

All Running, All The Time
I have a new hobby, a new goal, a new reason to wake up every morning. I’m a RUNNER now. My good friend Lesley and I are training for the Atlanta Thanksgiving Day half marathon. I spent a hundred dollars on a great new pair of shoes, now the ugliest shoes I own. They’re even Mac-compatible. The shoes have a special compartment for an iPod chip—and get this—if you buy all the right equipment, it picks up your pace and chooses music from your library with the right tempo. Amazing! Nate and his wife Rhea (now my neighbors) are also... read more
All FIRE Songs, All the Time
Part of the office is on fire right now. I have been challenged by the interns to make a playlist before we’re allowed to go back in the office. I won! Nobody was hurt and the fire is small, Kate 1. All Bonnaroo Wishlist, All the Time
Caren and I are leaving for Bonnaroo tomorrow. Last year we stayed in a hotel, but this year we’re doing it the right way…camping. Our Nate’s not coming because they told him he can’t bring his hairdryer, but that didn’t stop him from compiling a list of songs he’d like to hear by bands that are playing the festival. I did the same. Enjoy our BONNAROO WISHLIST, and have a great weekend. Already a little sunburned just thinking about it, Kate NATE: 1. Pete Yorn “Ice Age” 2. Spoon “The Underdog” 3. White Stripes “Icky Thump” 4. Manchester Orchestra “Wolves”... read more
All Drink, Swear, Steal and Lie, All the Time
Enjoy this list of songs that involve drinking, swearing, stealing and lying! And please remember to drink, swear steal and lie in moderation. This playlist is most obviously dedicated to Michael Peterson. I had thought it was John Michael Montgomery, but turns out his version of country classic “Drink, Swear, Steal and Lie” was a cover. Silly me. Love, Kate 1. Lucinda Williams “Drunken Angel” 2. Bright Eyes “False Advertising” 3. Travis “Peace the F**k Out” 4. Beck “Steal My Body Home” 5. Whiskeytown “Too Drunk to Dream” 6. Iron and Wine “Bird Stealing Bread” 7. Mason Jennings “Drinking as... read more
All Itchy Scratchy, All The Time
KNATE recently moved into new domiciles very close to Paste World Headquarters. While the KATE household has been busy with house-warming parties and frolicking on the lawn, the NATE household has been hacking vines, killing weeds and waging war on poison ivy, the plant of choice in our backyard. For all the weekend warriors fighting the good fight here’s a playlist for you. It’s a tribute to the seductress, poison ivy, and her evil ways. Itchy, Nate 1. Bel Biv DeVoe - “Poison” 2. Man Man - “Skin Tension” 3. Alice Cooper - “Poison” 4. Spanova - “I Feel It... read more
All Prom Rock, All The Time
Do you remember your senior prom? What did you wear? Was your date a dreamboat? Who spiked the punch? Who made out in the bathroom? Who threw up in the bathroom? All Guilty Pleasures, All The Time
We’ve all got guilty pleasures*. We’re all a little nostalgic for the cheesy songs we liked in middle school**. We all liked Billy Joel at some point***. We all know every word to Lisa Loeb’s “Stay”****. We all listen to soft-rock radio when we’re alone in the car at night*****. We all go to Mandy Moore chat rooms with screen names like “PopPr!ncess1982” and sleep in oversized Tim McGraw T-shirts*****. Right? I enlisted the help of the Paste staff on this one******. Enjoy this list of our guilty pleasure songs. And rest assured that we’re not playing the irony card... read more
All The Wheel, All The Time
The wheel is pure genius. Without wheels, we’d have to walk to work and use so many more sleds and camels, and so much more electromagnetic energy. I’d be particularly screwed because I don’t even know how to use electromagnetic energy. Enjoy this playlist, dedicated to our dear Wheel. Yours in practicality, Kate 1. Wilco “I’m a Wheel” 2. Bill Callahan “The Wheel” 3. Wade Marcus “Spinning Wheel” 4. Ryan Adams “My Winding Wheel” 5. The Band “This Wheel’s On Fire” 6. Lucinda Williams “Car Wheels On a Gravel Road” 7. The Reindeer Section “Cartwheels” 8. Viva Voce “Colour Wheel”... read more
All Lost and Found, All the Time
I have a love/hate relationship with clichés. When it comes to songwriting, they’re not few and far between. I mean, they’re easy bait. On one hand, they stick out like a sore thumb, and I wouldn’t go near them with a ten-foot pole. I think we should really nip them in the bud, put the brakes on using clichés. Seriously, give me a break. But maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. On the other hand, sometimes I’m their number one fan, head over heels in love with clichés. I mean, in this... read more
All Nate’s Sinuses, All The Time
Nate, my SILENT partner (gosh) in this blogging adventure, has a sinus infection (gross). He sounds funny, so in order to make him feel better about himself, I’ve compiled a list of good songs with nasaly vocals. Pictured is Jennifer Aniston’s controversial nose. I say if you want a nose job, and you’re incredibly rich, then get a dang nose job. But that’s just me. Love, Kate 1. Destroyer “Painter In Your Pocket” 2. Apples in Stereo “Please” 3. Smashing Pumpkins “Tonight, Tonight” 4. Joanna Newsom “Cosmia” 5. The Decemberists “Grace Cathedral Hill” 6. Elvis Presley “Viva Las Vegas” 7.... read more
All Kate’s Favorite Songs, All The Time
Not a lot of time today= sorta lame playlist. These are my favorite songs as of this moment. They’re all slow, and most of them are sad, and two of them are by Ryan Adams. Woo! Kate 1. All Anger, All The Time
Love songs, schmove songs. Enjoy this playlist of songs inspired by ANGER. Disclaimer: We like these songs but don’t necessarily mean to promote being angry. It messes up the balance of the universe and makes people look ugly. I’m sure you can tell by the digital embellishment that Jason’s back from Iceland! Peace, Knate 1. Lucinda Williams “Joy” 2. Bruce Cockburn “If I Had A Rocket Launcher” 3. Pixies “Something Against You” 4. Bob Dylan “Positively 4th Street” 5. The Smiths “Unhappy Birthday” 6. Ben Folds Five “Song For The Dumped” 7. The Magnetic Fields “Reno Dakota” 8. Shelby Lynne... read more
All Love Songs, All The Time
Love must be the most common lyrical theme, probably because it’s the most wonderful human emotion. There are all different types of love to sing about…romantic love, platonic love, religious love, family love, unconditional love…although most love songs are about romantic love. I’m a fan of conditional love. For example, “I’ll love you if you go to the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Soul2Soul concert with me,” or, “I’ll love you as long as you have a Tom Collins waiting for me every day when I get home from work.” Enjoy this playlist of love songs, and download FREE TRACKS... read more
All Emmylou Guest Spots, All The Time
Emmylou Harris gets around. Aside from making her own records, she’s a guest vocalist on almost every other record that’s ever been made, ever. And girl’s got good taste…two of my all-time favorite songs are featured on this list (“Oh My Sweet Carolina” and “We’ll Sweep Out the Ashes In the Morning”). Enjoy this playlist of songs that feature the lovely Emmylou. I couldn’t bring myself to Photoshop this picture because she’s just too pretty. Who would you like to see collaborate with Emmylou? I think I’d pick Rufus Wainwright. Their voices would sound so nice together. As ever, Kate... read more
All Buy A Hybrid Or The Earth Gets It, All The Time (We’re ba-ack!)
KNATE is BACK! And we promise to update more regularly from now on. We’ve just recovered from our pre- and post-SXSW frenzy. Nate watched An Inconvenient Truth last night and came to work convinced that an Ice Age will commence by Saturday. He was particularly shaken up by the heart-wrenching animated polar bear scene, which he reenacted at least once this morning. Speaking of ice, Jason and his wife Summer are in Iceland right now partying with Bjork*. In all seriousness, if you haven’t seen Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, Netflix it. The film teaches us that global warming is... read more
