NIN, Coldplay, Björk, more craft April Fool's Day gags
April Fool's Day is no longer just about telling your family you are getting married or phone calls announcing you've just won an all-expenses paid trip to Nowheresville; it's about bands and the fake news they put up on the good old Internet. On April 1, it's hard to believe everything you see around the web, and bands are taking it to another level. Here are a few of the best music-related pieces of faux-news Paste found today.... read more

The weekend of July 31 will be the All Points West festival's first birthday, but this party won't be of the ice cream cake-and-piñata variety. Plans are well underway for the festival's second year to include Beastie Boys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tool and Coldplay. There may not be party hats or favors, but loads of overpriced alcohol and the view from Liberty State Park should more than make up for it.... read more

To the annoyed reader responding to our last Coldplay tour announcement, upset that the band wasn't hitting Atlanta, her wishes have been granted. And, probably a lot of other people's have, too. You know you're kind of a big deal in music when CBS news program 60 Minutes decides to run a segment on you one hour before you're to compete in the Grammys. As we said in our Grammy Predictions, we have a love/hate relationship with the Grammys. But hey, we love music, so we're watching to see what happens. Could be a controversial night if Coldplay's alleged Joe Satriani rip-off grabs some hardware ("Viva La Vida" by Coldplay and Satriani's "If I Could Fly"). But plenty of great artists are nominated (M.I.A., Allison Krauss/Robert Plant, Radiohead, Gnarls Barkley, Daft Punk, Brazilian Girls....we could go on), so as always, it'll be worth watching, especially for the... read more

First, it was a Brooklyn-based band that was raining on the Coldplay hit parade. Creaky Boards lead singer Andrew Hoepfner posted a YouTube video claiming the U.K. group's title-track single "Viva La Vida" bore a "striking" similarity to a Boards song entitled (strangely enough) "The Songs I Didn't Write."... read more

And that's not all: just two weeks prior, on Nov. 10, the band will digitally release a four-track version of its Viva La Vida song "Lost!," including one remix featuring Jay-Z.... read more
