Band Names That Sound Too Much Alike

image not available

When our esteemed designer Josh Baker heard that Dignan was playing in our studio, he thought Dungen was coming in. Fortunately, both bands are awesome so he wasn’t disappointed—just a little confused. But it got us thinking about other bands with names that are too much alike. Here are our favorites:...  read more

Deerhoof: Offend Maggie

Note: Also serves as review for Deerhunter's Microcastle. Go to rate that album by clicking here.As global warming threatens the chilly habitats of the family Cervidae, we can thank Deerhunter and Deerhoof for calling attention to the noble antlered animal. Last year, the bands’ Cryptograms and Friend Opportunity offered equal parts ambition and experimentation. This year both follow-up their breakthroughs, so deer around the world can sleep a little easier, knowing their namesakes are keeping the kingdom in the spotlight....  read more

Like the fauna that shares their name, Deerhoof's migration pattern shifts every Fall, and this time it's in support of the band's new LP Offend Maggie, which is now available in both digital and physical formats. Some of you out there might fondly recall a free covers/rarities EP that the group posted last year, which included a superb take on the Beatles' "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill." Over a year has passed since then, and as the band writes on its Kill Rock...  read more

Deerhoof Ballet Available on DVD

My high school plays were mundane performances of Oklahoma and Annie, but students at the North Haven Community School are, luckily, a little more original. They created a performance based on Deefhoof's Milk Man album, and a DVD of the show is available now. Students and teachers at the NHCS joined members of the community to perform an art show/concert/ballet to the music of the 2004 album. An orchestra consisting of local band the Toughcats, NHCS students and others played Milk Man as a backdrop for a performance art piece featuring dancing, flailing and a bowling ball bizarrely rolling across...  read more
