UPDATE: With a somber heart, it's our duty to report that Rourke has backed out of the appearance. Evidently his publicist reminded him he's up for an Oscar.---The Wrestler can’t exactly be called a celebration of the sport, but in an instance of life imitating art, the WWE has apparently warmed to the movie and made early arrangements for Mickey Rourke to appear on Wrestlemania. ...  read more

After the trio of prestige art films (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain), most people thought they had Darren Aronofsky pegged. Then this year he decided to make a film called The Wrestler, and cast seemingly washed-up actor Mickey Rourke in the title role. The film earned rave reviews at last week's Toronto International Film Festival, and won the top award at the Venice Film Festival.
