Aisha Tyler Set to Direct Socially Charged Thriller, Vigilante

Actor/comedian/director Aisha Tyler is set to show off her directing chops yet again with the forthcoming timely, #MeToo-era film, Vigilante.

The film was written by Irwin Winkler—who also has Creed II opening just next week—and Jose Ruisanchez, with Winkler also serving as a producer. It tells the story of a woman who, following an attack, uses her grief and anger as a motivating force in protecting others.

“Irwin’s body of work is extraordinary, and his taste impeccable,” Tyler told Deadline. “I am thrilled he has entrusted me with bringing this film to life. It is a muscular and affecting story of a woman who transforms her pain into power, refusing to let a violent act dim her spirit, while also exploring the lasting impact of violence, not just on the victim, but on the perpetrator.”

While Tyler is best-known for her roles in Archer, Friends, 24 and Criminal Minds, she has also made a name for herself through directing the award-winning psychological thriller AXIS and a few episodes of Criminal Minds.

Tyler recently guested on the first episode of Paste’s new video series, What Do You Love?, during which she spoke about a few of her current favorite things with Paste editor-in-chief Josh Jackson. Check out that episode below.
