Amy Adams Stars in First Teaser for HBO’s Psychological Murder Mystery Sharp Objects

It’s been 12 years since Amy Adams appeared on a television show: the American adaptation of The Office, in which she guest starred in three episodes. This July, the five-time Academy Award-nominated actress returns in HBO’s psychological murder mystery miniseries Sharp Objects, adapted from the novel of the same name by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn. Adams plays reporter Camille Preaker, who returns to the small town she grew up in to cover the murder of two adolescent girls. As she dives into the investigation, memories from her own past begin to resurface as she realizes she identifies way too closely with the victims.

Considering Sharp Objects’ top spot on Paste’s 20 most-anticipated new shows of 2018, the first teaser comes as a huge treat for us. Emmy winner Jean-Marc Vallée of Big Little Lies directs the eight-episode miniseries, though he is unfortunately not directing the forthcoming second season of Big Little Lies, which is currently in production. Academy Award nominee Patricia Clarkson (Pieces of April) costars along with Chris Messina (Julie and Julia, The Mindy Projects) and Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds, Big). Emmy nominee Marti Noxon (unREAL) serves as the limited series’ creator and executive producer. Adams serves as an executive producer as well, along with Jason Blum under his Blumhouse Productions banner.

Adams has quite a few projects in the works. Pre-production for Enchanted 2 is already underway at Disney, along with Jackie director Pablo Larraín’s adaptation of The True American. She will also play Lynne Cheney in Adam McKay’s Backseat, which chronicles former Vice President Dick Cheney’s life in politics. Academy Award winner and Adams’ frequent co-star Christian Bale will play Dick Cheney in the film from Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.

The Sharp Objects teaser trailer has all the elements of mystery and intrigue you want to see, capturing the audience while not revealing anything to give the story away. The series premieres this July on HBO.
