Anthony Kiedis Recovering After Canceled Gigs

Earlier this week, we reported that Anthony Kiedis was rushed to a hospital before Red Hot Chili Peppers’ scheduled performance at the KROQ Weenie Roast in Irvine, Calif. last Saturday with complications from intestinal flu. Since then, the band has also canceled a concert on Tuesday at iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank. However, it seems that the frontman is on his way to a speedy recovery, as reported by drummer Chad Smith in an interview with Radio X this morning.

Smith confirmed that Kiedis has been recovering smoothly and apologized again for the canceled performances: ”[…] we went directly to the hospital and we were really upset we couldn’t play for the fans, but also more worried about him. I really appreciate all the well wishes. People sent so much stuff.” Smith also commented, likely referring to the deaths of Prince and David Bowie earlier this year, that “I know everyone’s freaked out when they hear about another musician going into the hospital. It’s been such a rough year. He’s a very strong man and he”ll be back better than ever.”

Kiedis, back on his feet and seemingly on the mend, was photographed by Daily Mail on Sunday exiting a sushi restaurant in Malibu with bandmate Flea. This seems to imply that the band will make its scheduled appearance at Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio next Monday.

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ newest album, The Getaway, is set for release on June 17. To view the full tracklist, click here and listen to the first single, “Dark Necessities,” below.
