Avey Tare, aka Animal Collective’s Dave Portner, has released a new single from his recently announced album Cows On Hourglass Pond. The track is titled “Taken Boy” and follows the album’s lead single “Saturdays (Again),” which came out back in January. Avey Tare has always been one of the more accessible Animal Collective solo projects, and “Taken Boy” is no exception, finding Portner in a subdued, contemplative reverie.
Cows On Hourglass Pond will be Portner’s fifth album as Avey Tare, his last release being 2017’s Eucalyptus. The album was recorded at Laughing Gas in Asheville, N.C., between January and March 2018, and it was captured entirely on a Tascam 48 reel-to-reel tape machine. Portner mixed it with Adam McDaniel at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville.
Cows On Hourglass Pond comes out on March 22, and it’s available for preorder now as a CD and as a deluxe LP with a bonus 10” of two extra songs, titled “Tipped in Hugs” and “Dogs Say Goodbye.” Avey Tare has also announced a tour behind the new album, the dates of which can be found below.
