Beetlejuice 2 Lives on With a New Writer

He’s back. Per Deadline, the much-discussed sequel to Beetlejuice is back on track at Warner Bros., with a new writer attached. Mike Vukadinovich, whose sci-fi drama film Rememory made it to the Sundance Film Festival, will rewrite the movie, and while no deal has been set with original director Tim Burton and Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton (they are both working on a live-action Dumbo for Disney), the two are reportedly excited for the opportunity.

The original 1988 movie had Keaton as ghost Beetlejuice, who, after being released by a little girl (Winona Ryder), attempts to scare away some homeowners in service of the ghosts who used to occupy the home (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis).

Besides Rememory, Vukadinovich wrote a script for Disney titled Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, based on a Disneyland ride, and wrote for the forthcoming Marvel-Hulu show Runaways, which comes from the creators of The O.C. and Gossip Girl.
