Big Mouth Renewed for a Second Season on Netflix

Netflix viewers eager to keep reliving their awkward years of teenage puberty need not worry—Big Mouth has been renewed for a second season (per Variety). Coming from Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg (Family Guy), the animated show pulls from the teenage experiences of the two real-life best friends—namely from their explorations of sexuality and love.

Kroll voices the character of Nick (naturally), and is joined by voice cast members John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Jenny Slate and Jessi Klein. Kroll and Goldberg co-created the show with directing/screenwriting pair Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett (Nim’s Island). When talking at a PaleyFest panel about the creative process of capturing the authenticity of the pubescent experience, Levin had this to say:

Whenever we interviewed a writer for the show we’d always say, ‘Tell us about what it was like when you had your first period, or what it was like when you were caught masturbating. That was the litmus test because they had to be able to freely open up. We made the room a really safe place where everyone could talk about that.

The first season of Big Mouth is streaming on Netflix now; read our thoughts on how the show approaches emotions and sexuality here.
