Photos by Mark Davis/Getty, Donna Ward/Getty Movies News Infinity WarCarrie Coon will lend her voice and perform via a motion-capture suit in the forthcoming superhero melting pot Avengers: Infinity War as one of Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) henchmen, Proxima Midnight, as revealed Monday by the directors Joe and Anthony Russo in an interview with RadioTimes. Her character is the only female member of ruthless alien group the Black Order. According to the comics, Proxima is armed with a spear covered in a deadly toxin. The spear also has the power to distort time, making her arguably one of the most deadly characters in the elite group.
Coon is best known for her Emmy-nominated performance in season three of Fargo, as well as for her work in the HBO series The Leftovers. She also starred as Margo Dunn in David Fincher’s adaptation of Gone Girl with Ben Affleck. She most recently costarred in Spielberg’s The Post.
The remaining identities of the other Black Order members have yet to be confirmed, although the Russos also told RadioTimes that Irish actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (The Secret Scripture, The Infiltrator) is playing telekinetic villain Ebony Maw, while Terry Notary (The Square, Kong: Skull Island) will play the largely silent character Cull Obsidian.
Coon tweeted her excitement about the reveal, saying, “It’s true! My voice and a dazzle of gifted animators have teamed up to play Proxima Midnight.” See her tweets below and revisit the latest Infinity War trailer here. The film opens on April 27 and is already selling an insane amount of advance tickets.
