Men I Trust haven’t released a full-length album since 2015, but since then they’ve been churning out single after catchy single. The Montreal pop trio made up of Emmanuelle Proulx, Jessy Caron and Dragos Chiriac is gearing up to release a third LP sometime early next year, but there’s plenty to chew on while we wait, including a new single out today, Sept. 6. “Seven” is a groovy, bass-driven spacer, and it arrives with a new video, which you can watch below.
Clad in varying interpretations of normcore, Proulx, Caron and Chiriac explore a forest, canoe on a lake and lounge around in the grass in the self-directed video. The visuals make for an ideal backdrop to the song’s relaxed tone, poppy vocals and gently bobbing bass line. In the last minute, a guitar solo fit for an arena enlivens the otherwise airy track.
After listening to Men I Trust, you might be surprised to find their name on Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival lineup, primarily a hip-hop and R&B festival. But there, nestled underneath Kali Uchis, Brockhampton and The Internet is Men I Trust. Tyler personally asked the trio to play the festival, which takes place at Dodger Stadium in L.A. on Nov. 10-11, according to Vice’s i-D. “Tyler just wrote to me on Instagram,” Proulx told i-D. “He said ‘I like you guys.’ That was it.”
“Seven” is the band’s most R&B-forward track to date, so maybe their Camp Flog Gnaw appearance isn’t so out of the blue after all. Again, you can watch the “Seven” video below.
