Delta Airlines Flights Face Massive Delays, Cancellations After System Outage

A computer outage this morning inside of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport caused the entire computer system for Delta Airlines to temporarily crash, stranding passengers worldwide.

Now, Delta passengers are facing massive flight cancellations and delays. According to the latest update from the airline’s website, it has so far “operated 800 of its nearly 6,000 scheduled flights” and has been forced to cancel 300 flights (and counting) since the system crash.

The update also says systems are improving, but customers should still expect delays and cancellations. Any Delta passenger whose flight is canceled or “significantly” delayed can receive a refund.

The company is also temporarily lifting the fee to allow customers to make a one-time change to their tickets, but these changes must be reserved and applied by Friday, Aug. 12.

The cause of the outage has not been discovered, and the airline told CNN that it does not believe its computer system was hacked.
