Destroyer Shares Stunning New Single/Video “Tinseltown Swimming in Blood,” Announces 2018 Tour Dates

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Therefore, French director Chris Marker should be pleased upon seeing Destroyer’s video for “Tinseltown Swimming in Blood,” which mirrors his classic 1962 short film La Jetée, especially since the adaptation was so stunningly shot.

Director Karen Zolo explained in a statement where the inspiration for the clip starring Dan Bejar came from:

“I’d just had a conversation about artist Chris Marker with a friend when I was approached to make a music video for the upcoming Destroyer album,” she said. ”’You have a month.’ Okay… I had no idea what the song even sounded like, but the only idea I had was to remake Chris Marker’s La Jetée as faithfully as possible. It’s not just an homage to the great cine-poet; it’s also about the medium of film, about still photography. It would have been a billion times easier and less stressful to shoot it digitally, but it was worth it.”

The video, composed entirely of black-and-white still images like the original, accompanies a thoughtful, ‘80s-influenced track with melodic baselines that give New Order a run for their money. It is a follow-up to “Sky’s Grey,” the first single unveiled from Destroyer’s forthcoming 12th album ken, due out on Oct. 20 via Merge Records.

Destroyer has announced that he will be touring his way around North America in support of the album come 2018. Check out his tour dates below, watch the video for “Tinseltown Swimming in Blood” above and preorder ken here.
