Nick Urata leads DeVotchKa, a Denver based band whose themes of love and romance have gained them a passionate worldwide following. The band, which derived their name from the Russian word for “girl”, is a multi-instrumental ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, and Mariachi music with punk and folk. In support of their 2011 album “100 Lovers”, DeVotchKa has played shows from Istanbul to Paris and across the US to critical acclaim. In addition to endless touring, it has also been DeVotchKa and Urata’s film scoring that has been getting attention; the Hollywood Reporter named Urata one of the top 10 up-and-coming film composers for his work that includes pieces in I Love You Phillip Morris, Little Miss Sunshine, The Jonses and more. On a recent San Francisco stop, DeVotchka stopped in for a heartfelt Vault Session.
