Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone Announces New Solo EP Scars, Shares Title Track

Erika Spring has shared “Scars,” the first single from her forthcoming EP of the same name, out Oct. 5 through Cascine.

Scars will be Spring’s first solo release since her debut EP in 2012. She’s stayed busy in the interim—she reunited with her famed synth-pop trio Au Revoir Simone to record a new album and appear in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks reboot, as well as teaming up with Jenny Lewis and Tennessee Thomas under the name Nice As Fuck to record an album and tour North America.

On “Scars,” Spring recounts the wounds, both physical and emotional, that have been inflicted upon her in her path toward motherhood. A tender piano figure is the baseline that Spring wraps herself around with an increasingly fractured chorus of her own voices. “We wrote the track around the time I had an early miscarriage … the words just spilled out,” Spring says. After the birth of her son in 2016, Spring says there’s been a “general intensity to life which hasn’t slowed down,” and this too is felt here—the little scars that continue to form throughout parenthood, not from pain but from growth.

Spring will perform in her hometown of New York City on Oct. 4 at Elsewhere for Cascine Label Night alongside Yumi Zouma, Half Waif and Maria Usbeckl.
