Frank Ocean Releases New Track “DHL,” Previews Two Additional Singles

It’s been a long couple of years for fans of Frank Ocean. After putting out his 2010s standout sophomore album Blond in 2016, and taking to his Apple Music/Beats 1 radio show, blonded, to release a string of singles in 2017, Ocean has been less than forthcoming about his musical endeavors, with the exception of a cover of “Moon River” that dropped on Valentine’s Day last year. In an interview with W in September, he was typically coy about the release dates of any new projects—but it seems that he’s ready to share what he’s been working on. On Saturday, Oct. 19, Ocean debuted “DHL” and a live recording of a remix of new track “Cayendo” on the first episode of blonded since 2018. He also announced the 7” vinyl releases of “Cayendo” and an additional single, “Dear April.”

In his conversation with W, Ocean stated that he was “interested in club, and the many different iterations of nightlife,” and “DHL” is a woozy, languorous, largely rap-focused ode to dancing, popping pills and no-strings-attached sex. Last week, Ocean announced his own foray into the nightlife circuit: a somewhat controversial series of club events called PrEP+, which will reimagine what the 1980s queer club scene in New York might have been like if HIV-prevention drugs were available at the time. He previewed two other previously unreleased tracks—”Cayendo” and “Dear April,” which feature his signature croon—in the form of remixes by Justice and Sango at the inaugural event on Oct. 17. Ocean included the full recording of Sango’s “Cayendo” remix on Saturday’s episode of blonded.

Listen to “DHL” and “Cayendo (Sango Remix)” below, along with a brief clip of the Justice remix of “Dear April.” “Cayendo” and “Dear April” are up for preorder here.
