Get Ready to Walk With the First Trailer for FX’s Pose

Ryan Murphy is at it again, this time turning his lens on the burgeoning cultural sects of ‘80s-era New York City in FX’s forthcoming musical drama Pose.

While the series will focus on “the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York” such as “the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe and the downtown social and literary scene,” the first trailer focuses on the underground ball culture that continues to be seminal to the queer community to this day.

While ball culture was popularized by the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning, it hasn’t been a focus of mainstream media much in the decades following the film. Pose puts the competitive nature of walks and the familial, embracing nature of the house system to the forefront in a history-making display of inclusivity.

The series will feature Evan Peters, Kate Mara and James Van Der Beek in high-profile roles, but Murphy, along with co-creators Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, have made a concerted effort to make the show’s cast just as inclusive as its presentation. The cast will feature the most trans actors in regular roles and the most queer cast members for a scripted TV series in the history of the medium.

“Along with being a dance musical and an affirming look at American life in the 19802, I’m so proud that Pose and FX has made history right from the beginning … I can’t wait for people to see this incredibly talented, passionate cast,” said Murphy.

Prepare your fit and get ready to walk when Pose debuts on June 3. Check out the trailer below.
