James Blake Releases “Timeless” Remix Featuring Vince Staples

Music News James Blake

In May James Blake blessed us with the release of The Colour in Anything on Polydor Records, his third studio album. The album is filled with star-studded contributions, featuring Bon Iver and Frank Ocean on four different songs.

Last night, Blake blessed us again when he released a new studio version of the track “Timeless,” featuring rapper Vince Staples (who himself just put out an excellent EP, Prima Donna). The collaboration was first heard this summer when the two performed together at the Glastonbury Festival.

In this version, Staples raps in poetic prose over the track’s electronic beat, emphasizing the song’s focus on the fleeting nature of time, saying, “I was fortunate to meet you, wasn’t strong enough to keep you.” The two musicians have different musical styles that coalesce together to form an awesome collaboration, which can be seen on Blake’s upcoming tour. In addition to Moses Sumney, Staples was named as a supporting act for Blake’s North American tour, which kicks off in Dallas later this month.

“Timeless” was originally supposed to feature Kanye West but according to Blake, the collaboration didn’t materialize. Lucky for us, Staples was featured instead. Listen to the collaboration below, find out where The Colour in Anything fell on our list of 2016’s best albums so far here, and read our review of Staples’ new EP here.
