Lost‘s Jeremy Davies Joins American Gods as Jesus

TV News American Gods

Jesus is coming to American Gods. The Starz drama has cast veteran actor and Emmy winner Jeremy Davies as Jesus, Entertainment Weekly reports. Davies is just the latest in a long line of actors joining the project, one which is already one of the most anticipated series of 2017.

American Gods follows Shadow (Ricky Whittle), a criminal who finds himself in the middle of a centuries-long conflict between old gods and new ones. This war is one regular humans are completely unaware of, and it becomes something of a battle between ancient cultures and modern ideas relating to technology.

Jesus’ role is entwined with that of another character. Easter, or Ostara (Kristin Chenoweth), will be integral to Jesus’ arrival on the show. The official character description for Jesus reads: “Resurrected on Ostara’s feast day, Jesus has always been generous in sharing the Easter holiday with the ancient goddess. But the overly empathetic Son of God would be crushed to know that Ostara harbors some deeply buried resentment over the issue.”

Davies is likely best known for his role as Dickie Bennett on Justified, and for his work in the crucial role of Daniel Faraday on Lost. (Others may remember him as the cowardly Corporal Upham from Saving Private Ryan.) Davies is also currently involved in the forthcoming seasons of Sleepy Hollow and the Twin Peaks revival .

Neil Gaiman’s American Gods cast also includes Whittle, Ian McShane, Gillian Anderson, Pablo Schreiber, Emily Browning, Orlando Jones, Cloris Leachman and Peter Stormare. Davies joins a lineup of incredible talent, to say the least.
