Jimmy Kimmel Taking Brief Break From Show After Baby Son’s Second Surgery

Jimmy Kimmel and his family avoided tragedy in April, when his newborn son Billy survived pulmonary atresia, a rare heart condition, thanks to the immediate efforts of doctors and surgeons. Kimmel’s baby son underwent a scheduled follow-up surgery recently, prompting Kimmel to take a break from his show and utilize guest hosts.

The first of these hosts was Chris Pratt, who took the time to also promote his forthcoming film Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom with co-star Bryce Dallas Howard. Per USA Today, other guest hosts this week will include Tracee Ellis Ross, Neil Patrick Harris and Melissa McCarthy.

Ever since Kimmel’s tearful April monologue, the television personality has used the platform of his late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about healthcare, in an effort to support parents who do not have the same fame and privilege as he does. In multiple monologues, Kimmel has criticized the GOP Congress and President Trump on their healthcare efforts this year, even having Senator Bill Cassidy on the show to discuss his ill-fated healthcare bill.

Kimmel’s son’s surgery was a success, and the host will spend the rest of the week with his family. In the meanwhile, check out Chris Pratt’s monologue as guest host from last night below.
