Images via NetflixNetflix documentary short Lessons from a School Shooting: Notes from Dunblane received the trailer treatment on Thursday. At the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, it was awarded Best Short Doc, and has since garnered Sheffield’s Doc Dispatch award and the Athens Int’l Film Festival Best Short Doc award.
The documentary, directed by Kim A. Snyder, takes a close look at the repercussions of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting, following Father Bob Weiss, who was tasked with burying eight of the child victims. As he’s dealing with PTSD, he receives a letter from Scottish priest Father Basil O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan went through a similar experience in Dunblane, Scotland, in 1996, when 16 children were killed by a single gunman. Lessons from a School Shooting follows the growing relationship between the two priests, as well as their countries’ respective outcomes. Scotland reformed its gun policies as a result of the Dunblane tragedy, while, even six years later, the U.S. has done next to nothing.
There have been over 1,600 mass shootings in the U.S. since Sandy Hook, with deadly shootings in Maryland and Wisconsin in the past two days alone.
