You know that hazy sort of in-between when you’re drifting in and out of not-quite-awake and not-quite-asleep, floating somewhere beneath bliss and clean sheets? That’s kind of what listening to Living Hour’s freshly released “Hallboy” feels like. Minus, you know, the part where your iPhone alarm brings said dreamscape screeching to an annoyingly abrupt halt.
Think of the track as the lovechild of Joan Jett’s “Crimson and Clover” cover tangled up with Alvvay’s “Archie, Marry Me.” Steady percussion and bass set a hypnotic pace that lull the listener into a shoegaze-y trance. Swelling brass pushes through the sleepy soundscape, an unexpected sonic choice that coaxes you gently from dreamland and back into the real world.
“Hallboy” is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, Softer Faces, due out on March 1 via Kanine and available for preorder here.
