Matt Bomer Buys Out Texas Theater for Free Screening of Love, Simon

Golden Globe winner Matt Bomer is buying out an AMC theater in his hometown of Spring, Texas so that anyone can go and see this pivotal coming of age film about a closeted gay teenager who comes out to his friends and family. Love, Simon is the first mainstream gay teen romance movies to arrive in American theaters and one of the first ever fully queer films to have a PG-13 rating. The film follows a teenage boy named Simon who struggles to come out to his friends and family once his secret is threatened after falling for an anonymous stranger named “Blue”.

The film stars Nick Robinson (Everything, Everything, Jurassic World) as Simon, with Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel playing his parents and Golden Globe nominee Katherine Langford of 13 Reasons Why. The film is based off the novel Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.

Matt Bomer posted on Instagram after seeing the film on its March 13 premiere, “I’m so happy that a generation of young people will have this to watch and realize that #loveisloveisloveislove. Please support this important film.” Matt Bomer openly came out as gay in 2012 in a speech where he thanked his husband, publicist Simon Halls. Bomer won a Golden Globe for his performance in the HBO film The Normal Heart and is most known for his roles in American Horror Story and Magic Mike.

The viewing will happen on Sunday, March 25 at 4 p.m. and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
