Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Share Video for New Single “Crime Pays” From Bandana, Out Next Month

After months of speculation, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib have announced the release date for their new collaborative album, Bandana. It’s out June 28 on Keep Cool/RCA Records and Madlib Invazion/ESGN, and the news arrives with a new single, “Crime Pays,” and an accompanying video directed by frequent Gibbs collaborator Nick Walker, which you can watch below.

Bandana, the long-awaited follow-up to Gibbs’ and Madlib’s 2014 joint effort Piñata, will feature Pusha-T, Killer Mike, Yasiin Bey and Black Thought. “Crime Pays” follows previously released single “Flat Tummy Tea,” which dropped in February.

“Crime Pays” finds the pair in fine form, with Gibbs slinging accelerated verses left and right and Madlib’s distinctly wobbly production on full display. All hail the dream team. The video, set on a zebra farm which appears to double as an underground drug ring, is weird and tons of fun. Gibbs fishes and pops champagne along a rushing brook, takes in the mountainous scenery and, in a brief intermission, puts the farmhands in their place. We wouldn’t want to be ones mucking out those stalls.

Again, you can watch the video for “Crime Pays” below. Further down, hear Freddie Gibbs’ 2010 Daytrotter session. Pre-order Bandana digitally right here. To purchase the vinyl or CD (available July 27), go here. Keep scrolling for the Bandana cover art by Jeff Jank.
