Taking the acoustic, vocal poise of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and doubling that is exactly what you’ll get with indie-folk duo Penny and Sparrow.
The duo’s latest single “Don’t Wanna Be Without Ya” finds Kyle Jahnke and Andy Baxter playing on the nuances of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecilia,” while also managing a freshness that is all their own.
Featured on their forthcoming album Finch, “Don’t Wanna Be Without Ya” explores the idea of reincarnation and the romantic want to always be with someone.
“The song imagines being so enamored with someone that you make a promise: No matter what form you take in the next life, I want to be a part of it,” Baxter said in a statement. “’Don’t Wanna Be Without Ya’ is an ode to being in love with every past, present and potential iteration of a person. Telling someone you ‘don’t wanna be without’ them means you recognize the alternative: Life devoid of them is something you want to avoid.”
