Today, Mike Hadreas has announced the return of his beloved project, Perfume Genius. His new album, Glory, will land on March 28 via Matador Records, and it’s welcomed into the world by a lead single called “It’s a Mirror.” This marks the seventh Perfume Genius album for Hadreas, who recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of his incredible record Too Bright. Last fall, we named “On the Floor” the seventh-best song of the 2020s so far, and his 2020 LP Set My Heart on Fire Immediately fell at #36 in our best albums of the decade so far list.
Glory was produced by Blake Mills and features a backing band of Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), Greg Uhlmann, Tim Carr, Jim Keltner and Pat Kelly, along with a guest appearance from Aldous Harding. It will feature an appearance, narratively, from his longtime muse Jason and feature themes of the body, domesticity and, of course, love. Glory follows Hadreas’ 2022 effort Ugly Season, a Perfume Genius project adapted from his collaboration with choreographer Kate Wallich on The Sun Still Burns Here. Hadreas was also featured on the recent TRAИƧA, and his rendition of “Point of Disgust” landed on our year-end best cover songs list in 2024.
