Nearly a decade since first bursting onto the scene, Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Ted Dwane and Winston Marshall are back with their fourth studio album.
Mumford & Sons’ Delta is available now through Gentlemen of the Road/Glassnote Records. The record was produced by Paul Epworth, written collectively by the band and recorded at London’s The Church Studios.

There’s little shift in style to be sure—the darker, denser experimental tone of “Darkness Visible” being the most notable exception—but these offerings resonate regardless. “Guiding Light,” “Beloved,” “October Skies,” and hell, most everything else saved the subdued twosome “Wild Heart” and “Forever” soar like cinematic soundscapes. The arched arrangements and orchestral embellishment offer the impression that indeed the drama is real, and any sense of yearning is not only palpable, but precise as well.
The latest album follows 2015’s Wilder Mind and, most recently, 2016’s collaborative Johannesburg EP. Their previous LPs include 2012’s Babel, which was awarded the 2013 Grammy for Album of the Year, and their 2009 debut, Sigh No More.
Mumford will begin their world tour tonight, Nov. 16, in Dublin, Ireland, and make their way to North America by the end of the year. The tour will be the band’s largest to date.
