TBS Renews Search Party and The Last OG

Two comedy series are saved from being gutted by television. TBS has announced today (per Variety) that The Last OG and Search Party will both be renewed for another season.

“We couldn’t be prouder of these two comedies and that they’ve been recognized by critics and audiences alike for their uniquely hilarious points of view in a very crowded field,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of programming for TBS. “We truly believe The Last OG and Search Party are two of the best shows on television.”

Tracy Morgan stars in the The Last OG as an ex-con released from prison after 15 years who returns to his native Brooklyn only to find a completely changed place. 2017 breakout star Tiffany Haddish costars along with Allen Maldonado, Ryan Gaul and Cedric the Entertainer. Academy Award winner Jordan Peele’s production company Monkeypaw Productions executive produces alongside Morgan, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Saladin Patterson and Joel Zadak of Principato Young. The first season just debuted last month on March 31.

“I would like to thank God, my family, the fans and TBS and everyone that has been given a second chance. We love you!!!” said Morgan.

From creators and executive producers Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers and Michael Showalter comes Search Party, a dark comedy about a group of super-privileged, completely terrible twenty-something millennials who try to cover up a murder. The show stars Alia Shawkat, Meredith Hagner, John Early, John Reynolds and Brandon Micheal Hall. Season two premiered this past November.

Both Bliss and Rogers have finalized a deal with TBS that includes new projects specifically for Turner, in addition to another season of Search Party. The duo will continue to develop more and more original titles exclusively for Turner.

“Making Search Party has been a very dreamy experience because of the support and enthusiasm of the entire TBS team, so we of course jumped at the chance to make more things with them,” the pair said. “Our plan is to pitch them one hundred shows a day, amounting to 36,500 pitches. It’s never been done before and that’s why it has to happen.” In an age where television is ruled by quantity rather than quality, let’s hope the duo’s able to strike gold again.
