NBC to Turn The Bone Collector Into a TV Series

The Bone Collector buffs, rejoice! Whether you’re a fan of Jeffery Deaver’s 1997 novel or of Phillip Noyce’s 1999 psychological-horror thriller, the classic story is being reimagined as a television series.

On Friday, NBC purchased the rights to a brand new script inspired by The Bone Collector, per Variety.

The Bone Collector follows Lincoln Rhyme, a retired forensic criminologist left paralyzed after an accident on the job. Brought back to the force for a horrific case, Rhyme partners up with detective Amelia Sachs to take down some of the most dangerous criminals in the United States.

The project comes from writers VJ Boyd (S.W.A.T.) and Mark Bianculli (The Good Neighbor), and from Universal Television, Sony Pictures Television and Keshet Studios.

NBC is no stranger to the crime drama. The network is well-known for its critically acclaimed work in the genre, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Chicago Fire, The Blacklist and Chicago P.D..

The first of Deaver’s Bone Collector books was released in 1997. After the initial novel met with great success, Deaver wrote 10 more bestselling books following the investigations of Rhyme. The most recent in the series, The Skin Collector, debuted in 2014.

The 1999 film of the same name starred Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie, grossing $151 million worldwide. In the movie version, Rhyme and Sachs follow a madman who terrorizes New York City. The project also featured Queen Latifah as Nurse Thelma and Michael Rooker as Detective Howard Cheney.
