The Newest Ghostbusters Trailer is Here, and It Doesn’t Look Bad

The action-packed second trailer for the Ghostbusters remake was released today, to the likely dismay of all of those people who have tweeted director Paul Feig (who is #sickofthehaters) their disgust with the largely female casting choices.

The trailer shows us more of the film’s action moments than the first and gives us a better idea of the kind of jokes we can expect, which are not all gender-related. SNL’s Leslie Jones’ line “I don’t know if that was a race thing or a lady thing… ” after she dives into a crowd of people who neglect to catch her is cringe-worthy at best. But hey, at least Melissa McCarthy isn’t playing another token dumb, overweight character who falls down a lot. In fact, she seems to be the most level-headed of the new Ghostbusters squad.

The shining moment of the trailer comes at the end, when Jones, with a hefty demonic ghost on her back, tries to carefully exit the scene while bystanders take a selfie. Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon also star in their respective seemingly “safe roles:” awkward panicky woman and all-around weirdo. Don’t we know and love those roles on them, though? And Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. Kevin the receptionist, promises to be the film’s wild card, as he gets possessed by a ghost in the clip.

Despite playing up the expected race and gender aspects, Ghostbusters looks like it has a real shot at being the comedy of the summer with its SNL-studded cast. We’ll find out on July 15, when the film hits U.S. theaters. Watch the newest trailer above, and stick around until the end: the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man may or may not make an appearance.
